OTTAWA – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP (Saanich – Gulf Islands), issued the following statement on Clean Air Day:
“A key day within Environment Week, Clean Air Day reminds us all that nothing is more essential to life than the air we breathe. We note with gratitude that Ontario has had far less smog since it acted to close down its coal-fired power plants. Cleaning the air also contributes to the fight against climate change.
“Another major polluter – contributing to smog and climate change – is transportation. We must focus on sustainable forms of transportation. Through innovation into new technologies thousands of new jobs will be created and the health outcomes of Canadians will greatly improve.
“On Clean Air today, let’s work together for cleaner air and healthier Canadians. ”
