Please read the following statement released by Elizabeth May recognising the anniversary of the 2016 shootings in La Loche, Saskatchewan:
“Today marks 8 years since four people were senselessly killed, and another seven seriously injured, by a 17-year-old in La Loche, Saskatchewan. After taking the lives of his cousins, the perpetrator targeted La Loche Community School. This was the worst school massacre in Canadian history since the tragedy at École Polytechnique.
Loved ones, first responders and the entire La Loche community continue to reel from this horrific act of violence. Today Canadians remember and honour those who were taken far too soon, and we reaffirm our commitment to addressing the root causes of these attacks.”
