“Four years since Chantel Moore was shot and killed on her threshold by a member of the Edmunston, New Brunswick police force. The killer claimed self defence, but there is no video or audio evidence to back his claims. The knife he claimed he was threatened with was not found near her body. Chantel’s experience reflects the reality of Indigenous people across Canada who fear the threat of death by wellness check. We are long overdue for an Indigenous-led public inquiry on systemic racism in Canada’s justice systems.”
